National Mourning Day and 46th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman were observed with due solemnity by Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS).

BASIS organized a discussion and doa mahfil through online on Sunday, 22 August. President of BASIS Mr. Syed Almas Kabir presided over the program. On the occasion it is swear to build Sonar Bangla the dream of Bangabandhu and Digital Bangladesh the dream of Hon'ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.  At the same time, it was demanded that the masterminds behind the killing of Bangabandhu and his family members be brought to light and the fugitive killers be brought to justice in a short time.    

A visual presentation on Bangabandhu was present at the beginning of the program. Md. Nazrul Islam Khan curator of “Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Memorial Museum" presents an article on “ Ideas and thoughts of Bangabandhu about Science and Technology.”

Minister of State for Information and Communication Technology Mr. Zunaid Ahmed Palak, M.P was the chief guest at the program. He referred 15th of August as the most shameful day in the history of the Bengali nation and the world.

He said, Mr.Sajeeb Wazed Joy is the architect to build Digital Bangladesh. We are trying to transform the government system of Bangladesh into a paperless system. There will be no red tape factor in future Bangladesh. The government is working to create a common platform to fully digitalize the country's financial transactions system.

He further added the Department of Information and Communication Technology has made an animated movie "Mujib amar pita". This movie will help our younger generation to know Bangabandhu.

On the occasion, the Minister recalled the contribution of BASIS and its member organizations in building digital Bangladesh. He wants the support of BASIS to create an alternative "Jogajog" app alternative for Facebook.

Deputy Minister for Education Mr. Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury was the Special guest at the program. He highlighted the government's success in keep moving the country's education system by using digital media during this time of the global corona virus pandemic.

He said, If Bangabandhu was alive for long time Bangladesh will be like Singapore. Bangabandhu was a communist but he did not accept socialism as the principle of running the state, he made democracy the principle of running the state. By murdering Bangabandhu on 15 August 1975, the defeated power of 1971 wanted to turn Bangladesh into a failure state.

He further said that in order to build Bangabandhu's Sonar Bengal, a corruption-free Bangladesh must be built. Digital Bangladesh is the solution to build a corruption free Bangladesh. Digital Bangladesh is a great vaccine against corruption.

Member of Parliament of Reserved Seats for Women Ms. Aparajita Haque was the honorable gust and Speaker. She spokes on life history of Bangabandhu and his contribution to establish an independent country Bangladesh.

She said, the killers were able to kill Bangabandhu by physically, but his consciousness is immortal. He will alive among us forever.

BASIS President Syed Almas Kabir said,  Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman brought us freedom through long movement struggle from 1947-1971. Bangladesh is one of the success stories of post-independence transformation from a "bottomless basket" to a self-reliant country. The country is now moving forward with determination under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the worthy daughter of Bangabandhu, with the aim of building a 'Digital Bangladesh', a modern transformation of Bangabandhu's dream 'Sonar Bengal'. He further said, “Bangladesh, Bangabandhu and Liberation War — these three words are basically synonymous. There is no opportunity to analyze any one of these three separately.

A special doa is thru for seeking forgiveness of the souls of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, his family members and all the martyrs at the ceremony. The Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of his family members were brutally assassinated at their Dhanmondi Road No. 32 home on August 15, in 1975.
