Turkey is interested to collaborate with Bangladesh on the development of Bangladesh’s Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector. It was mentioned at a meeting between Mr. Mustafa Osman Turan, Turkish Ambassador to Bangladesh, and Mr. Russell T. Ahmed, President of Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) on Monday, March 21, 2022, at the Turkish Embassy, Baridhara.
At the meeting, Mr. Russell T. Ahmed said that Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina declared ICT as ‘The Product of the Year’ for the year 2022. Aligning with that, BASIS has started working to excel in the ICT industry further focusing on seven pillars: make human resources future-proof, develop local industry, develop foreign markets, increase access to capital & fiscal incentives, create a thriving ecosystem for startups, formulate policies to help grow intangible assets and promote the industry. BASIS is also working to help the industry to reach US$ 5 billion in export earnings by 2024 and US$ 20 billion by 2031.
Responding to that, Mr. Mustafa Osman Turan mentioned that they are very keen to collaborate with BASIS in the enrichment of Bangladesh's ICT sector. He highlighted that Turkey is interested to participate in Business-to-Business matchmaking sessions, Roadshows, and, most of all, in the next BASIS SoftExpo. He also mentioned BASIS's collaboration with Startup Istanbul, which is the leading startup hub in Turkey that brings together founders, investors, and executives in the region.
The meeting was also attended by Mr. Kenan Kalayci, Commercial Counsellor of the Turkish Embassy, Mr. Abu Daud Khan, Vice President (Administration), BASIS; Mr. AKM Ahmedul Islam BABU, Director, BASIS; Mr. Enamul Hafiz Latifee, Joint Secretary, BASIS and Ms. Nadia Tabassum, Assistant Manager, Trade Facilitation, BASIS, among others.
