Bangladesh Association of Software Information Services (BASIS) will initiate award for best reports nationally, in the ICT sector from next October. BASIS president Russell T. Ahmed made the announcement at an iftar and view exchange meeting with journalists at a hotel in the capital on Saturday.

On the occasion, the 'BASIS SoftExpo 2023 Best Reporting Awards', an initiative of BASIS, was presented as an inspiration for the professional work of journalists. A total of nine reporters were given this award in three categories. The names of the award winners were announced in this event attended by hundreds of media persons and guests.

The winners in the three categories are - Bangla Tribune senior staff reporter Hitler A Halim won the first prize in the online media category, Imdadul Haque the executive editor of DigiBanglatech.News won the second prize and Prothom Alo reporter Badal Khan won the third prize.

Morsalin Junaid, staff reporter of Channel 24, won the first prize in the electronic media category, Shubo Khan the staff reporter of Somoy TV got the second prize and HM Shuja, producer of Ekhon TV got the third prize.

In the print media category, Mahmudul Hasan, Staff Reporter of The Daily Star won the first prize, Md Kaushar Uddin, senior staff reporter of Dainik Sangbad and Rahitul Islam, reporter of Prothom Alo, won the third prize.

At the event, BASIS President Russell T. Ahmed presented the awards to the winners and said, “Journalists play a leading role in the development of the country's ICT sector. BASIS wants to give some inspiration to the great professional responsibility of journalists despite our limitations. As a part of this, for the first time, BASIS SoftExpo 2023 Best Reporting Awards has been initiated. Also, we will initiate award for best reports nationally, in the ICT sector from next October.”

For this reason, he urged two journalist’s organizations of the information technology sector, BIJF and TMGB president Naznin Nahar and Md. Kawchar Uddin to form a committee by next June and prepare a policy through the committee.

BIJF and TMGB presidents both welcomed this initiative of BASIS. At the same time, they expressed their thanks to the BASIS president and the BASIS Executive Committee for the tradition of meeting media persons individually.

BASIS president Russell T. Ahmed exchanged greetings in advance of Eid among the media persons invited to the event.
